Facts and Pedagogical Support for Schools

Facts-and-pedagogical-support

Students face many challenges in school. Much of it goes unnoticed, can cause many misunderstandings and shape the social relationships at school. For example, a teacher might suspect that a student is being bullied or there's something else going on that is troubling the students, but there's no way to get to the bottom of it.

Unicef published a study recently stating that every fifth student reports having stayed at home from school due to bullying. Bullying is a serious problem all around the world and the solutions to it are few, also because people experience social situations in unique ways. What constitutes bullying to one student, might be a friendly joke to another.

Facts Enable Intervention

School Day has developed a solution that enhances student wellbeing by recording and reporting student experiences daily. It is easy to use; students tap on the icons on the screen to react on five wellbeing statements twice a day. This is how students get a voice and teachers and school leaders are provided with up-to-date insights into their students' wellbeing. For example, how many percent of the class feels tired or hungry, or lacks motivation or friends, or if there is someone who is bullied.

At School Day we believe that providing schools with objective, real-time data is a crucial step in enhancing student wellbeing. School days are busy and individual experiences are easy to miss even for experienced and skillful teachers. Not many students want to show their feelings in public, and there are situations in which teachers are not present at all. With School Day teachers will get a summary of their students' wellbeing every day. We also provide the teachers with tips from other experienced teachers. For example, if it turns out that there is a student that feels lonely, our solution suggests mixing the groups for the next group work and talking to the class about empathy.

Pedagogical Support

At School Day we also believe that our solution serves an educational purpose in itself. While answering, students will reflect upon the statements and stop to think about their behavior. For example, when students see the statement "I think it's okay if I push someone" on their screens, they might think: "Oh no, it really isn't okay. I shouldn't push anyone. Now I feel a bit embarrassed that I have done it before." Over time, this thinking will be reinforced with the help of the daily repeats of our wellbeing statements.

School Day wants to support schools in creating a positive and encouraging learning environment, helping teachers in focusing on the most important issues, and making also everything positive that happens in schools visible to the world around it. Imagine being able to show a simple graph about your school's excellent team spirit to the parents in a parent meeting, or tackling criticism aimed at schools by a simple graph showing how things really are. In the long run, we will be able to take off teachers' and school leaders' workload, remove false assumptions about schools, and most importantly, make it possible for the students to focus on learning. We believe that highlighting the positive will add to the empathy skills and good behavior patterns of the students. We aim to bring schools to a cycle of good, which reinforces itself with every turn.

We are very excited about being able to support student wellbeing in schools. If you want to know how it all works, watch the video below and contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information.
